Research Interests
Applied linguistics is a fascinating discipline that has developed in an interdisciplinary manner to include the study of language in all its aspects including its structure, its diversity, how it changes and evolves, how people learn and make use of it to communicate, and how it is implicated in relations of power. Communication and miscommunication, rhetoric, speech acts, political discourse, Critical Discourse Analysis, Functional Linguistics, language and identity, language acquisition, language education, cross-cultural communication, bilingualism and multilingualism, ethnography, forensic linguistics, the preservation and revival of endangered languages, and the assessment and treatment of language difficulties are intriguing areas of interest.
Research students interested in working in any area related to applied linguistics, sociolinguistics or language acquisition are encouraged to get in touch.
