Ever since its foundation, the Arab Open University has established a partnership with the UKOU and as such follows the Quality Assurance code of practice that is developed by the UK-based Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).The code of practice for the assurance of academic quality and standards is a means with which the AOU assesses its performance.

Quality Assurance as defined by the QAA is a way of describing all systems, resources and information that universities and higher education colleges use to maintain and improve ​standards and quality. This includes quality in teaching and student learning, research, administrative and financial schemes.

To ensure a quality enriched learning experience for students and faculty, the Arab Open University through its quality assurance unit monitors and evaluates its procedures and practices, and the services that it provides for students. In addition, the role of the unit is to produce and develop new procedures and practices that are coherent with high quality standards and are in fact aimed at enhancing AOU productivity, refining and improving already established practices and procedures.​
