The new MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) is one of the very few Master degrees in teaching English, available in Lebanon.
It is the only MA in teaching English as a Foreign Language that is validated by the British Open University, supported by AGFUND and offered at competitive fee.
The duration of the programme is two years.
The MA in TEFL has two tracks: one with dissertation and one with a comprehensive exam.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the programme, you need to:
- Have a BA degree in English Language and Literature, or a related specialization from the Arab Open University or another recognized university with a graduation rating of GOOD or higher as evaluated by the Ministry of Higher Education.
- Achieve Band 6 or higher in the Academic Version of the 'International English Language Testing System' (IELTS) test, OR Achieve a score of 550 or more in the ‘Test of English as a Foreign Language’ (TOEFL) (Paper-Based Test) or the equivalent score in the Computer-Based Test.
Programme Duration
The minimum number of semesters for a Master degree is four regular semesters (two academic years).
The maximum number of semesters for a Master degree is eight regular semesters (four years).
Method of Delivery
The method of teaching for the programme is full time teaching/ blended learning.
Lectures' attendance is mandatory at least once a week (or twice for some courses) for each registered course. Tutorials are offered from 8:00am to 9:00pm and can be scheduled into 1 or 2 days per week to accommodate working students.

Payment Details
New and continuing students have the option to pay their tutition fees in installments following an installment plan.
Refunds in case of withdrawal from courses
During the “Add and Drop" period announced in the university calendar, you may withdraw or add some courses within the study plan in a way that does not conflict with the minimum or maximum required registration load.
The Financial procedure for withdrawing courses is as follows:
