Course Description: This course is the first in a series that will teach students to understand and use the English language at a university level. Students will be expected to read short texts and paragraphs, listen to and watch starters' videos, and analyze their content to identify main ideas and supporting details. In addition, students are expected to answer simple comprehension questions and to understand vocabulary using context clues. At the end of the course, students are expected to write short and coherent paragraphs that are well structured and punctuated. This course approximates an Exit Level of 3.0-4.0 for the IELTS, 350 for the paper TOEFL, and A1-A2 for the Common European Framework Level.
Learning Outcomes:
- Ask & answer simple questions on familiar topics;
- Understand the main point in short, clear, and simple messages & announcements;
- Identify topic sentences and supporting details;
- Write titles for short paragraphs.
- Develop a concluding sentence for a short paragraph.
- Read short & simple texts;
- Use transitions effectively between paragraphs;
- Understand short, simple emails;
- Write short, simple notes and messages.
